Since about 10 years ago, the people of Ho Chi Minh have thought of Le Thanh Ton street as the Little Japan of Ho Chi Minh. There are not only Japanese bars, supermarkets and restaurants ... but also many Japanese have been living here for years and have formed a Japanese community in the center of Ho Chi Minh.

十年ほど前からレタントン通りはサイゴンの人々に「リトルジャパン」のように思われていて、この通りにはジャパニーズバー、日本食レストラン、日本人向けスーパーがあるだけではなく、多くの日本人が何年も住んでいて、サイゴンの中心に日本のコミュニティーが出来ているのです。

When living in Japan you will be able to see streets with many traditional restaurants. Just as Japan, Le Thanh Ton Street in Ho Chi Minh is filled with small traditional Japanese restaurants with wooden and bold red panel fronts.

日本に住むと通り沿いに多くの伝統的な日本料理店を見ることができるのですが、サイゴンのレタントン通りでも日本と同様に濃い赤と木調で作られた日本風のお店が沢山並んでいます。

Here, it’s very quiet since the Japanese are not at home most of the time. Besides, there are many cozy Japanese restaurants with yellow lights. People eat and talk to each other quietly and you will quickly see the similarities to Japan. The street is covered in Japanese restaurant signs.

リトルジャパンの日本人住民はよく家を空けているので町が静かなのですが、黄色い明かりをつけた居心地の良い日本食レストランが多くみられ、通り沿いにも日本料理店の看板がたくさん出ていて、また人々は静かに話しながら食事している事などから、ここに来るとすぐに日本と似ていることに気付くでしょう。

On Le Thanh Ton Street, Japanese people are living peacefully. They leave home very early and return late. Most of them are people who go to Vietnam to work for their company, so the companies try to make their lives in Vietnam similar to their lives in Japan. Everyday they just go to and from work, most of their friends are their coworkers. Thus their life here is not too different from that in Japan.

レタントン通りの日本人は実に平和な暮らしを送っています。朝早く仕事へ行き夜遅く帰宅する。殆どの日本人は会社の命令でベトナムに出向しているので、会社は彼らのために日本とあまり変わらない生活環境を準備しているのでしょう。毎日会社に通い、彼らの交友範囲はほぼ同僚だけといった感じですので、おそらく彼らは日本での生活とあまり変わらない暮らしをしているのだと思います。

Restaurant customers are mostly Japanese businessmen or Japanese who settled in Vietnam. However, because the Japanese really know how to bring positive Japanese culture to Ho Chi Minh, so now young people in Ho Chi Minh really like Japanese food, so they also frequent here.

レストランのお客さんはほとんどが日本から出張で来た人かベトナムに住んでいる日本人ですが、日本人は日本の良い文化をホーチミンに持ちこんでいることもあり、ホーチミンの多くの若者達は日本料理が好きで、リトルジャパンに遊びに来る者も少なくありません。

The Japanese are living quietly here, and you will be able to experience their warmth and friendly approach when visiting any of the restaurants. In addition to restaurants and bars, there are small supermarkets and convenience stores in many places. This is what has made this place into Little Japan. There is one big difference though, there are no vending machines.

日本人はここで穏やかにに暮らしていて、日本食レストランへ行くと日本のおもてなしの心を感じることができます。レストランやバー以外に、スーパー、コンビニなどがありその世界観からここは「リトルジャパン」と呼ばれているのです。ただ一つ日本と大きな違いがあるとしたらそれはここには自動販売機がないということだけでしょう。

Whether at work or in everyday life, the Japanese really know how to preserve their culture and their national spirit. Therefore, they have created a Little Japan in Ho Chi Minh with a very specific style. You will understand it as soon as you arrive.

仕事でも日常生活でも、日本人は日本文化や日本人気質を守るのがとても上手です。そうしてホーチミンで独特なスタイルのリトルジャパンを築きあげました。もしあなたがホーチミンのレタントン通りを訪れたらすぐに「ここはジャパニーズタウンだ」ということに気付くと思います。
